From writing in the sand to spinning kids around, to identify unique ways that ordinary people can make
money, ordinary people need to identify a target market for a product or service.
What will make the product or service unique is that nobody else in the area is offering the same product or
service.
Others may try to copy what they see creative opportunists doing to make money, but if the first supplier of the
product or provider of the service continues to work hard, and keeps the product or service as unique as possible,
getting a head start with a unique idea can lead to a really successful small business.
A target market can be found anywhere where there is or will be a group of people all needing or desiring a product
or service.
8 unique ways that ordinary people like you can make money are:
Advertise on the beach:
Offer to walk along long sandy beaches on sunny days and write huge website addresses in the sand with a stick.
Charge extra if the clients want their website address compiled of shells or pebbles.
Supply umbrellas:
Watch the weather reports and learn to identify areas where cars cannot park too close to the exit of buildings.
Park outside and wait for everyone to exit. Make sure you are wearing a raincoat, and then go stand near the exit
with your collection of umbrellas.
Spin kids around:
At any place where there are plenty of kids and parents, hang a sign over yourself proclaiming that you offer
spins to kids for a fee. They line up, pay you, and you grab their hands, lean back a bit, and spin around 5 times.
Charge extra if they want you to grab one hand and one foot so that they can fly like an aeroplane.
Supply or transport rubbish bins:
At annual or monthly events where you notice that there are not many rubbish bins around, you can offer to
supply or at least transport rubbish bins to and from the event. If you feel irritated when buying food or drinks
in disposable containers and finding no nearby bin to throw your rubbish away, it must be irritating other people
too. If you don't have the money to buy some rubbish bins, or a vehicle suitable for transporting rubbish bins,
you could even offer to walk around with a big bag collecting rubbish from people, and emptying the rubbish bin out
at a rubbish bin at the edges of the event area. Give yourself or your business a unique name for advertising
purposes, like Walkabout Rubbish, or Two-footed Rubbish Disposer.
Return DVDs:
You're not the only one that wakes up on a Saturday morning or Sunday morning wishing you could just laze
the day away, then realising you can't because you have to return a DVD to the DVD store before midday.
If you don't stay too far away from a DVD rental store, you don't even need a car to return other people's
DVDs on their behalf.
Food and drink:
What is the first thing you eat or drink when you get home after visiting a flea market, because you didn't find the
food or drink on sale at the flea market? Sell that food or drink at the flea market.
Coffee cup alarm:
Design an alarm (and have the design patented) for the inside of a coffee cup that alerts people to the fact
that a coffee cup is getting empty. Don't you just hate it when you finish your coffee without realising
you did, and you were so looking forward to enjoying those last few sips?
Miniature saddles:
Make and sell simple material saddles for dogs, so that kids' dolls can ride on a dog. Warn that there will
be no refunds if either the doll or the dog does not enjoy the experience.
Conclusion:
To find more unique ways in which ordinary people can make money, be aware of how you feel about situations,
and note them down. Also, simply keep your eyes and ears open. Listening to what people are saying or are moaning
about, or watching children play, can give you many unique ideas
